  1. ChargeTimer Deluxe and lite
  2. a couple of applications to help get the most out of you PowerBook.
  3. They display the following information about your PowerBook:

  5. Useage.
  6. The total amount of use that you PowerBook gets and accumulates. Deluxe shows the amount of time left over from pervious sessions plus the amount of time in this session and the Total of these two figures, the Lite version only shows the Total.
  7. These figures are reset to zero when you select Reset from the File menu and the application then quits.

  9. CPU speed.
  10. I couldn't resist puting this item into the display, I don't even know if it will be different for other PowerBooks.

  12. Battery Voltage.
  13. This is a ROUGH guide to the condition of your battery. The PB140, of example, brings up the first battery warning at 5.86 volts so if you watch the Battery Voltage, for any type of battery, in any condition, then you can gauge how much time remains, It may also confuse the less knowledgeable, and poor spellers, amongst us, eg, the charge voltage peaks at around 7.15 volts, but the battery voltage will quickly drop to less than 7 volts even if the PowerBook is turned off. It is a function of the battery and not a fault or problem.

  15. Battery Time Remaining.

I wrote 4 different routines to work out time remaining, or was it 5 ?, some were combined with others and after days of testing I can state that "Based on battery voltage and some of the data associated with the useage of the computer, that predicting the remaining battery time to within 5 minutes, at anytime during the time that a computer is in use, is this far away>    <from impossible" What I ended up using was a figure based loosly on the amount of recent voltage drop, over time, and a course average time remaining based on some values collected when I was graphing the Voltage discharge of my PB140. This means that it can be wildly inaccurate at first but settles down to be fairly accurate within 30 minutes of the 'end'. This should also apply to nonstandard batteries as well as standard batteries.

  18. Other messages will appear in place of the Time Remaining Guess. These will show when any of the following occur, the battery voltage increases due to changes in use, the charger is plugged in, strange values in battery voltage or when the battery has past the First Warning stage.

Another feature of these versions of Charge Time is the ability to save the battery voltage and Time as a TEXT file. This file can be used in spreadsheets to graph voltage and time, to test battery performance. The sampling is once per minute and each line is just, the Time, a TAB, Voltage, and a return.
